THIS SUNDAY MISSION TRAINING HAS MOVED!

Attention: West Virginia Summer Missionaries! The mission training that was scheduled for this Sunday, May 2 at 3-5pm has been moved to Wednesday, May 5 at 5-7pm in the Xchange! The calendar just got too crazy for this weekend and too many folks were out of town. Pizza will be served at 5pm sharp for those who are hungry. Dawn has canceled all regular youth music activities for that evening. Bring a couple of bucks that will help feed the kitty! The schedule will allow for both the SMC band and the mission drama folks to have a little practice time following the training. All youth who are not going on the mission trip will still have a chance to go through some of the training sessions, offer their insights, and enjoy a group game for the remainder of the time.

WV Mission Trip Update

Hey W.V. Missionaries,

So far we have roughly 42 folks going on our summer youth mission trip to Webster Springs, West Virginia on June 15-20. Dawn has been working on the music side of things to get many of our youth ready for leading the Sunday & Wednesday night services. I've started things on the drama side with a small group of youth, yet need more students. There is a lot left to do in getting ready for this experience! Everyone who is going needs to be involve in its preparation somehow. If you aren't involved, contact me asap. Whether you juggle knives, eat fire, play an instrument, facepaint, enjoy working with children or senior adults, draw caricatures, etc...there is something you can offer this mission.

IMPORTANT DATES:
Sunday, May 2, 3-5pm --Mission Training (Sanctuary 101)
Wed., May 12, 7:30-8:30pm -- Mission Group Meeting (Xchange)

Mountain Marketplace Mission - youth will bag and hand out 400-500 bags of groceries to mountain families

Right now their pantry is bare and needs your help. We have till June 15 to get 400 - 500 of each of these: pinto beans, tuna, peanut butter, noodles, soups

Baker's Island Recreation Area where our kids will offer a block party for the community.

The Webster Springs community where kids will build relationships and be bearers of God's love

Gary & Lily - Mountain Marketplace Missionaries who's lives speak loudly of God's amazing love!

Attention: Sunday Morning Bible Study Leaders!

This coming Sunday, April 25th, will be the Sunday following our "InJoy AM" church-wide event where one of the activities is a Prayer Labyrinth. We'll have a 36 foot maze from Davidson College that will need to be returned on Monday. How would everyone feel if we left it up this Sunday morning in the Xchange and let it take the place of our regular Bible study group time for the youth? It would take an hour plus for individuals to rotate in and experience it. SMC would need to look different, maybe with snacks out in the front room just outside the Xchange. I welcome your feedback! Here is a picture of what the labyrinth might look like recognizing there shouldn’t be more than 7 or 10 students on it at a time and with a 15-20 minute time limit.
If we were to do this help me picture how we might engage youth outside the Xchange while waiting to enter the labyrinth. Should there be a joint lesson in room 103 & 104 (rooms opened up) to facilitate a large group Bible study? I would be happy to facilitate it or assist someone else. Just let me know your thoughts. Oh, this is not a regularly scheduled snack breakfast time that Lisa Orr is helping coordinate for me on a 2nd Sunday of the month basis. If you would be interested in helping supply snacks & juice for this coming Sunday, just let me know, via mmims@fbc-h.org or 864-245-8791 this week. Lisa is out of town this week.

Guys Camp Outing Review

The guys camp outing was absolutely amazing! The weather was beautiful. The campsite couldn't have been any better. We were actually spoiled with screen shelters and cots. The wood was provided. Cost was Low. It was easy to get supplies right to the campsite. Mooresville location was close. I just couldn't believe more guys didn't take advantage of this outing. The gang enjoyed spades around the fire till 3:30am, pranksters throughout the night, Orr's three story fire, building a beaver dam & those SHORTS of Craig's! The memories made were PRICELESS. Checkout these camp pictures!

UPDATE ON FRIDAY'S GUYS CAMPING OUTING

Hey Fellas -- This weekend's "Guys Outing" in Mooresville is going to rock! I just visited the site for this camping trip yesterday and it was amazing. We won't need tents....they have cabins (or should I say screened in lean-tos). I think that is how you say it and spell it. We will still do some low-ropes activities but will not be doing the high ropes course unless the cost is increased by $33 dollars. We will however do that another time. Wait to you see it. WOW!

We will be the only group there Friday night and Saturday morning and it is IN THE WOODS! Remember to read the info sheet a couple blog entries down and bring that form and money ($10) by Thursday noon if you want to go. That will give this guy time to get some of the supplies together. Hope to see you there. Watch for more details to come!

PS. Don't feel sad for the girls...they are creating a "Girl's Outing" that will be amazing as well!
